A 28-year-old youth from Nabha was killed after his car caught fire after hitting a truck on the Patiala-Nabha road around 11.30 pm on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Navreet Singh. Navreet and his two friends, Malvinder and Arshdeep, were reportedly going to Patiala in a car. When they reached near Rauni village on the Nabha road, their car was hit by a truck and it caught fire.

While injured Malwinder and Arshdeep managed to get out of the car. Navreet, who was driving the vehicle, could not do so. People pulled Navreet out of the vehicle and rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him “brought dead”.

On Sunday, the police recorded the statement of Arshdeep and started the investigation. Arshdeep said there were no reflectors on the truck and its indicators were also not functional. He said the accident occurred as the truck took a sudden turn. The car first hit the truck and then went on to hit a tree, after which it caught fire. The police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver and started the investigation.
