Punjab today reported its first case of Omicron, as a Nawanshahr man who returned from Spain on December 4 tested positive for the new variant.

A resident of Chak Ramu village, the 36-year-old man was placed under institutional quaratine after testing positive for Covid on December 12. He, along with two of his contacts who had tested positive, remained asymptomatic and tested negative on December 24.

Meanwhile, the number of daily Covid cases in Punjab touched the 100 mark today after a gap of almost five months.

During the second wave in April and May this year, 3.5 lakh cases were reported in about two months. The cases and deaths had started declining July onwards. — TNS
