NCB busts narco-terror module running from Canada, 3 held
The NCB has arrested Canada-based NRI Jashandeep Singh and two others.
An NCB official said the three suspects were arrested while further probe was still on. Apart from Jashandeep, the NCB has arrested Gurpreet Singh, alias Malla, and Vishal Lala of Bathinda.
Jashandeep, who had come to India in December last year, was arrested the Delhi airport when he was trying to flee to Thailand earlier this month.
The operation started in January-end with the arrest of Gurpreet Singh who was arrested with 1.386 kg of heroin.
“During investigation, it came to light that Gurpreet had received the contraband in the Chheharta area on the instructions of Dhillon who had fled to Canada last year,” he said, adding that Dhillon was a close associate of Canada-based designated Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dhalla.
Gurpreet’s questioning led to the arrest of Vishal Lala.
A financial investigation into the narco-terror module is being carried out. The NCB said around Rs 10 lakh of drug proceeds were handed over to Gurpreet by Vishal Lala.
The module was active in the Ferozepur belt where they had been carrying out drug peddling, weapon smuggling and targeted killings. The drugs and weapons were being smuggled by ISI-backed state and non-state actors in Pakistan through drone.
NCB officials said the matter had been taken up with appropriate authorities for initiating extradition of Dhillon.
