Need to strengthen Sikh bodies: Jathedar

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has called upon intellectuals and political leadership in the community for making Sikh institutions more powerful. There was a need to strengthen the Sikh institutions, especially which had been weakened during the course of time in the recent past, he said.
The jathedar who was here to address a seminar on ‘Directions and possibilities of message of Sultanpur Lodhi’, organised by Bhai Gurdas Institute of Advance Studies, said it was the duty of intellectuals in the community to provide principled guidance to the political leadership, which of late had been dithering from principles. The political leadership must also remain in touch with intellectuals, he said.
Singh said to make Sikh institutions more powerful, a World Sikh Convention would be organised at Anandpur Sahib in 2020. Directors of the Bhai Gurdas Institute of Advance Sikh Studies Harsimran Singh, Dr Swaraj Singh, Karamjit Singh; former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh; junior vice-president, SGPC, Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, and SGPC members Surinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Inderpal S Chadha and Prof Harpal Singh spoke at the event. — TNS
