Nine arrested in Amritsar for drug and weapon smuggling

Amritsar Rural police have arrested nine individuals in three separate incidents involving drug and weapon smuggling. The police recovered 722 grams of heroin, over Rs 2 lakh in Indian currency, two pistols and eight live rounds from their possession.

Among those arrested are Gurmeet Singh from Achintkot village, Hardev Singh and Tajinder Singh from Neshta border village, Lovepreet Singh from Lakhna village, and Baljit Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, and Sukhwant Singh from Manana village in Tarn Taran. Additionally, Sahildeep Singh from Chananake village and Sukhsagar Singh from Dairywal village in Tarsikka were also apprehended.

According to Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh, the first arrest occurred during routine patrols near Neshta border village. Police spotted a suspicious white Baleno parked on the roadside with three youths standing nearby. Upon questioning and searching the individuals, officers recovered 722 grams of heroin and Rs 1 lakh drug money. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Gharinda police station.

In another incident, Chatiwind police arrested Lovepreet Singh, Baljit Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, and Sukhwant Singh while they were traveling on a bike with an erased number plate. Acting on a tip-off, police seized a .30 bore pistol, five live bullets and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash. A case under the Arms Act has been initiated as investigations continue to dismantle their smuggling network.

Additionally, Mehta police apprehended Sahildeep and Sukhsagar Singh in Rajdhan village while allegedly preparing to commit a crime. They were found with a .32 bore pistol and three live cartridges. A case under the Arms Act has also been registered against them.
