Krishan Kumar, Secretary, School Education Department, has issued strict guidelines regarding the awards being received by the teachers at the district level.

A spokesperson said the cases of some teachers receiving the award without the recommendation of the District Education Officer have come to the notice of the department. Many teachers have received such awards which have nothing to do with the education sector. According to the spokesperson, the matter was directly related to the teacher transfer policy as teachers get extra marks for these awards during transfers.

In this context, the Education Secretary has directed all school heads not to give the benefit of extra marks under the policy to the teachers, who receive the awards without the approval of the DEO concerned. At the same time, directions have been issued not to mention such awards in service books, the spokesperson added.

In Faridkot too, there have been allegations that some teachers in government schools were using the awards they received from NGOs to get advantage during their transfer.

The Education Secretary wrote to the DEOs that NGOs were bestowing many awards to teachers at the district level without any recommendation of the school head or DEO.
