Mohali, December 15
In a one-of-its-kind initiative, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has started a customer-centric EMI facility on electricity bills.
Tenure to vary from 3 to 24 months
The EMI tenure will range between three months and 24 months with the rate of interest varying from 9 per cent to 15 per cent per annum, depending upon the term selected.
As per the scheme, the EMI tenure will range between three months and 24 months with the rate of interest varying from 9 per cent to 15 per cent per annum, depending upon the term selected. The late payment surcharge presently being levied in case of non-payment of bills varies between 2 per cent and 5 per cent for the first 15-day default, based on the category of consumers. Thereafter, the interest is also charged at the rate of 1.5 per cent for a month or part thereof.
Now onwards, instead of not paying the bill and living under the fear of disconnection of power supply, the consumers may opt for payments though EMIs with a period suitable to them.
An official
Baldev Singh Sran, chairman-cum-managing director, PSPCL, said the facility was now available on the PSPCL website under “insta bill payment” tab. “After the selection of ‘pay bill’ and entering consumer electricity account number, the consumer has to choose bill payment gateway (Billdesk or HDFC). After selection of the payment gateway ‘pay with EMIs’ tab is accessible,” said Sran, adding that various banks credit cards had been integrated like HDFC, ICICI, Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank, Axis, HSBC etc.
The department had been carrying out a number of new initiatives under Digital India Campaign to facilitate power consumers and this scheme was one of such step, he added. “Now onwards, instead of not paying the bill and living under the fear of disconnection of power supply, the consumers may opt for payments of electricity bills though EMIs with a period as suitable to them,” said the official.
