NRI couple gets remarried after 14 years

An NRI couple got remarried — 14 years after they first tied the knot in Vancouver — at Balad Khurd village in Sangrur on Wednesday.

Groom Rajesh Kumar said one of the biggest reasons behind this decision was to make their sons experience Punjabi culture and traditions in full glory.

“I went to Canada 14 years back and got married to Seema. At that time, we had decided to remarry again with full Punjabi rituals when we came back to our village,” said Rajesh.

So when they came to Rajesh’s native village Balad Khurd, they ensured that their long-cherished wish was finally realised. Initially, villagers thought that his family was joking, but when they saw the preparations, they also started helping the family.

A big marriage party went to Banga town for marriage while a reception, too, was organised on Wednesday night at Bhawanigarh.

Seema said at the time of her marriage, they could not perform all rituals so it was her long-pending desire to feel like a traditional bride. “Though I got married 14 years ago, it is only this time that I felt like a real bride amid all religious ceremonies,” she said.
