Shaminder Singh Gill, an NRI who retired as SDO, Electricity Department, of Badwala village in Bassi Pathana block today distributed 30 sport cycles and other incentives to students at a function held in a school. Amandeep Singh Gill, XEN, PSPCL, Sirhind, was the chief guest and District Education Officer (S) Sushil Nath presided over the function.

Addressing the gathering, the NRI said he had offered the incentives to encourage children from other villages to study in Badwala school so that its students' strength could be increased. He credited the school for his success in life. He said he felt lucky that he had been able to help students of his school. The school principal appreciated NRI Gill for the initiative and said even after living abroad, he did not forget his native village and school and kept planting saplings in the village and providing necessary items to the school. The XEN also announced an assistance of Rs 11,000 to the school for a printer.

Schoolchildren presented a cultural programme on the occasion. The outstanding students were honoured. Former DPRO Jai Krishna Kashyap, the village sarpanch, panches and several other dignitaries participated in the event.
