The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has arrested a person for illegally claiming input tax credit (ITC) of Rs 30.52 crore on the basis of Rs 200.05 crore fake bills.

Alleged mastermind Satveer Singh Sekhon committed the fraud through firms managed by him, namely Batala Metal Industries, HS Steel Industries and Citizen Industries. The first firm was engaged in trading of MS scrap, HR coils and ERW pipes.

During a search operation, a computer and some incriminating documents were seized from the residential and official premises of Satveer Singh. He was a partner in one of the firms and ran the other two in the names of his wife and driver.

Satveer has reportedly confessed to the offences committed under the CGST Act. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
