There is only one principal for five government colleges in Fazilka and Muktsar districts. As a result, he is able to visit each college almost once a week. Notably, the principal is the head of the college and is responsible for both academics and administration.

Prof Rajesh Kumar is the regular principal of Government College, Abohar, but he also holds the additional charge of government colleges in Fazilka, Jalalabad, Sukhchain (all located in Fazilka) and Muktsar.

A large number of regular teaching posts are vacant in the Higher Education Department, which has contributed to the current situation.

Prof Rajesh Kumar, who also holds the additional charge of Principal, Government College, Muktsar, said, “I took charge of Government College, Abohar, in July last year. At the same time, I was given the additional responsibility of the colleges in Fazilka, Jalalabad and Sukhchain. In October, I was assigned additional charge of Government College, Muktsar. It’s tough to manage five colleges simultaneously, but some of my colleagues are also handling almost a similar number of colleges.”

“The government has promoted six teachers to the rank of principal and recruited eight new principals. Hopefully, they will receive their joining orders soon,” he added.
