Witnesses said that Rajesh — who along with his one-year-old daughter, Rehmat, was riding a bike — fell on the road and got injured after being hit by stray animals. The girl child was crushed under the animals’ feet and died on the spot.

The family of the deceased girl and other villagers have expressed anger against the administration, saying that the problem of stray animals is getting worse day by day. Many people have lost their lives while hundreds became disabled in accidents due to stray animals, but the government was not taking steps against the issue.

A campaign to catch stray animals for gaushalas run by social organisations and the state-owned cattle pound in Salemshah village near Abohar had been launched but hundreds of stray bulls and other animals were still roaming on the roads in villages as well as in urban areas across the district.
