Sources said a Pakistani infiltrator was trying to enter the Indian territory, when the BSF soldiers tried to stop him. However, he kept moving forward, forcing BSF soldiers to gun him down. Pakistani currency amounting to Rs 1,770, cigarette, snuff packets, some medicine and a Pakistan ID card were recovered from him. He was identified as Abdul Gaffur of Behrampur village in Minchanabad tehsil of Bahawalnagar district in Punjab (Pakistan).

An FIR was registered at the Kesarisinghpur police station. The postmortem was done at a Community Health Centre. A case was registered under the Indian Foreign Act and Indian Passport Act.
