Pearls group scam kingpin Nirmal Singh Bhangoo died in Delhi on Sunday night.

Bhangoo, head of the Pearls group of companies, was the main accused in the Rs 45,000 crore scam of duping the investors of the company.

The CBI had in January 2016 arrested him and he was lodged in Tihar Jail.

He was reportedly taken to the DDU Hospital in Delhi and his death was recorded at 7.50 pm.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
