A suspected drug smuggler was injured in retaliatory firing by the police near Ladhuka village in Fazilka district on Sunday evening. Four packets of heroin weighing over 2 kg, a .32 bore pistol, four live cartridges and two empty shells were found at the scene of firing.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Fazilka, Varinder Singh Brar said the incident occurred when a team of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-2 signalled a motorcyclist to stop near Ladhuka village here.

The biker, later identified as Arun Setia of Bediyan Gali in Fazilka town, tried to flee. The police chased him and asked him to stop, but he fired two shots on the police party. One shot fired by him hit the side mirror of the police vehicle.

In the retaliatory fire by the police, a bullet hit the biker in the leg and he fell on the ground. He was overpowered, nabbed and admitted to local hospital for treatment. His bike was also impounded.
