A watchman posted at a petrol pump was allegedly beaten to death by two unidentified youths in the wee hours of Monday at Baude village in Nihalsinghwala sub-division of Moga district, police said.

Joginder Singh, 32, was a resident of Baude village.

According to sources, the two youths arrived at Bharat petrol pump in the village on an i20 car past midnight, where Joginder Singh was doing the night shift. They allegedly started beating him with baseball bats, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to a hospital in Ludhiana where he succumbed to his injuries.

The body will be brought at the district hospital in Moga for post-mortem.

Preliminary findings suggest that Joginder died of the injuries incurred during the beating.

The police have begun investigation and believe it to be a case of looting or personal rivalry.

“We are working on all possible theories and looking for CCTV footage to trace the car and its occupants,” said a police officer posted at the district headquarters here.
