After BJP district president Ajayvir Singh Lalpura raised the issue of illegal mining in Rupnagar on February 18, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has sought a response from the government.

The PMO has written to the Punjab Chief Secretary, asking for an explanation on illegal mining. Lalpura had reportedly highlighted illegal mining through a Facebook Live session from the Agampur bridge at midnight. The video purportedly showed how sand was illegally extracted from rivers while the administration remained indifferent.

Lalpura had previously written letters to the CM Mann, Chief Secretary, Rupnagar SSP and the DC, but received no response. “But I had complete faith in the Prime Minister and the PMO acted on my complaint immediately,” he said.
