In the complaint registered under Section 108, 3(5) of the BNS, Jyoti, the wife of Mohit (the deceased), said before her love marriage three months ago, Mohit was in a relationship with Anjali, a resident of Faridkot. Jyoti said the latter and her father, Tilak Raj, had been harassing Mohit. She said Mohit was depressed due to it, and he died by suicide when she was away to her parents’ house in Jaitu.

Mohit hung himself in a rented apartment on the first floor of a house in Nanak Nagar on Sunday. Before taking the extreme action, he posted a picture of himself with his wife on WhatsApp and apologised to her on the post. The deceased worked at a printing press here.

Ravi Kumar, who lives as a tenant on the ground floor of the same house, said he saw Mohit’s status on WhatsApp. He said he called his brother, and both of them went to the landlord. He said they tried to call Mohit; however, he did not answer. He added that when they went to the first floor with the landlord, they saw his body hanging from the ceiling fan.

Sub-Inspector Amrik Singh said that an investigation has been initiated.
