In connection with a case of thrashing of two Dalit youths allegedly by a BKU (Ugrahan) leader Manjit Singh Gharachon, the BKU (Ugrahan) cancelled its pucca morchas which were to be held from today at the residences of four ministers, including Harpal Singh Cheema, Aman Arora, and Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer.

The pucca morchas were cancelled following a meeting of the BKU (Ugrahan) with the higher police authorities at Sangrur yesterday. In the meeting, an ADGP-rank officer, Sangrur SSP and other police officers were reportedly present while on behalf of the BKU (Ugrahan), its state president Joginder Singh Ugrahan, state press secretary Jagtar Singh Kalajhar and district president Amrik Singh Gandhuan took part.

Jagtar Singh Kalajhar said today that they had cancelled the pucca morchas as the police officers at the meeting had sought time till July 16 from the union for fulfilling their demands. Kalajhar said they were told by the police officers that proceedings had already been initiated to remove the name of farmer leader Jagtar Singh Laddi from the FIR, registered against Manjit Singh Gharachon, Jagtar Singh Laddi and others, as Laddi had been found innocent during investigation. Besides, they also said that departmental action was being initiated against the SHO of Sadar police station, Sangrur, he added.

It is recalled that on July 7, the BKU (Ugrahan) at its meeting had given a call that if the police does not cancel ‘false case’ registered against Laddi, initiate action against the SHO of Sadar police station, Sangrur for mishandling the case, and scrap the Sections of the SC and SC Act from the FIR, the union would organise pucca morchas at the residences of four ministers and Sangrur MP from July 11.
