Social activists have urged the Maqsudan police to take speedy action in a case involving the alleged “abduction” of a minor girl of Amanatpur village in Jalandhar.

While the minor was allegedly kidnapped a fortnight ago, regarding which an FIR has already been registered, activists demanded the addition of the POCSO Act.

Jasbir Jassi and Kahsmir Singh Ghugshore of the Istri Jagriti Manch and Pendu Mazdoor Union said they would launch a stir if the culprits weren’t nabbed soon.

Minor girl’s mother told the police that her 17-year-old daughter, who studied in Class VII, went missing from her home at Amanatpura village in Maqsudan on November 14 and did not return home.

The FIR states that the victim’s mother who was away to Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, to check on her ailing mother-in-law, has six children.

The mother alleged that a villager named Sunny had kidnapped her daughter on the pretext of marrying her.

An FIR under Section 137 (2) and Section 96 was registered against Sunny at the Maqsudan police station on October 17.

Kartarpur DSP Narinder Singh said, “The POCSO Act has been added to the FIR. Raids are on to trace the man and the girl.”
