Chandigarh, February 23

The Shiromani Akali Dal is pressing for the dismissal of Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta over his Kartarpur remark.

A member of the core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal and former MP, Prem Singh Chandumajra, today said the DGP should be immediately dismissed from the service for his statement with regard to the Kartarpur Sahib.

His statement reflected his mindset about the Sikh community, especially the youth.

The UN Chief, during his recent visit to Kartarpur Sahib, had appreciated the opening of the corridor for pilgrims, but the Punjab DGP, with his mischievous intent, was seeing the potential of terrorism in this pilgrimage, said Chandumajra. His statement was a well thought-out design to damage the reputation of the Sikh community worldwide, the other objective was to harm the state financially and socially, he said.

CM must Tender apology, says SAD

Amritsar: Sikhs, led by the SAD, burnt effigies of DGP Dinkar Gupta, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and the state government on Sunday. Talbir Singh, in-charge, Amritsar South, said the DGP’s statement proved there was a conspiracy to shut the Kartarpur corridor. Party leaders said they would stall the Assembly until the CM apologised to the community. TNS
