Hundreds of irate farmers blocked the Amritsar-Pathankot national highway against tardy paddy procurement process.

Farmers converged at DC Uma Shankar Gupta’s office around 11 am. The farm leaders claimed that they had to wait for more than three hours to hand over a memorandum to the DC. Gupta said, “Why will I not meet them and listen to their grievances when I am very much present in my office? I was busy for just 20 minutes as I had to attend a video-conference with my seniors.”

The farmers marched to the Babri bypass which is the midpoint of the Amritsar-Pathankot road. Thousands of commuters, many of them wanting to catch their flights from the Amritsar airport, remained stranded.
