Activists from the Employees Joint Forum, Punjab and Bijli Mulazam Ekta Manch, Fazilka, staged a protest outside the office of the Executive Engineer, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) today. The employees demanded to be exempted from duties related to extinguishing farm fires in cases of stubble burning.

The president of the Fazilka division of the union, Dalip Kumar, said after repeated appeals from the employees’ state committee, the Punjab Power Secretary issued a letter on October 21, exempting them from these duties. However, the instructions were not implemented, leading to growing resentment among employees and prompting the protest.

The employees argued they should not be tasked with going to agricultural fields to put out farm fires and called for an immediate revocation of these duties.
