A case was registered at the Khuian Sarwar police station today when Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswinder Singh said he recorded the statement of the victim, Sada Lal Chalana. He was referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda, by the Abohar Civil Hospital.

The police said the victim had attempted to immolate himself in Rukanpura Khuikhera village, 18 km from here.

Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Brar had spoken to the Khuian Sarwar police station incharge, Sunil Kumar, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh Brar about the incident.

The police said a case was registered against AAP traders’ wing district vice president, Pankaj Narula, and another AAP activist, Arvinder Singh Shera, PSPCL SDO Baldev Singh, Rukanpura Khuikhera residents Kabul Singh, Karaj Singh, Kulbir Singh, and Gurwinder Singh.

The victim said he used to work on contract in the PSPCL; however, he left the job some time ago, adding that he ran a grocery shop in the village. He said the local suspects beat him near a canal on false pretext, and AAP leaders and the PSPCL official tried to falsely implicate him on charges of tampering with electricity meters. In return, they allegedly demand a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from him.

He said that after being insulted and blackmailed, he felt deeply hurt and decided to end life.
