The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Harbans Singh and revenue accountant Khushwant Singh while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. Both were posted at the PSPCL office at Bhawanigarh in Sangrur district.

An official spokesperson of the VB said the officials had been arrested on a complaint lodged by Happy Sharma, who runs a rice sheller at Bhawanigarh.

He further said the complainant had approached the VB, Patiala range, alleging that the officials were demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in lieu of settling a fine of around Rs 3.5 lakh imposed due to power load difference of his sheller. After conducting a preliminary investigation into this complaint, a VB team from Patiala range laid a trap and arrested both accused red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant.
