Aam Aadmi Party state president and Cabinet minister Aman Arora paid obeisance at Asafwala War Memorial, around 7 km from here, on Saturday.

After laying a wreath at the memorial, he called upon villagers present there to pledge to end the drug menace from Asafwala where 232 Indian Army bravehearts made the supreme sacrifices in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

He said the state government, police and the administration could not end the drug menace until the people of Punjab do not come forward to fight against the evil.

He said the senior superintendents of police (SSPs) of all districts of the state had been given a free hand to crackdown on drug mafia and peddlers. No political interference would be allowed in that regard, he added.

He announced to release Rs 55 crore for the development of the district, besides the set up a Sewa Kendra at the village.

Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna, Deputy Commissioner, Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, SSP Varinder Singh Brar also paid floral tribute to the martyrs.
