Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday sought an independent probe into the drug case involving the arrest of a woman constable in Bathinda.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg and the matter needs an independent and credible probe,” he said.

Addressing party workers in Dakha and Raipur Assembly segments, he alleged that “a complete anarchy” prevails under the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab.

“While an atmosphere of fear is prevailing with gangsters ruling the roost, the common man is suffering as his voice is not being heard,” he added.

He also accused ruling AAP of derailing the state’s economy with state debt continuing to pile up.

Speaking on the occasion, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly — Partap Singh Bajwa — urged the judiciary to take a suo moto notice of the dismissed woman constable’s case.

He called for a probe by the National Investigation Agency, saying the Punjab Police cannot be trusted on the matter since its own official was involved.

Bajwa added that there were many powerful and influential people linked to the case and that is why a probe by an independent agency is necessary.
