Punjab Congress set for overhaul as Bhupesh Baghel to meet state leaders on March 1
Setting the stage for organisational changes in the state unit, General Secretary In-charge Punjab Congress Bhupesh Baghel will hold his first meeting with Punjab Congress leaders on March 1. This development comes amid reports of groupism among party leaders and the central leadership’s decision to crack down on indiscipline.
Baghel, a senior leader from the OBC community and former Chhattisgarh CM, will interact with party MLAs, MPs, and district unit heads to gather their views. Before the meeting, he will pay his respects at religious places in Amritsar. PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Warring has planned a grand welcome for Baghel.
The meeting is crucial, as it aims to address the pending reconstitution of the state party unit since Warring took over as PPCC chief in April 2022. With the 2027 Assembly election looming, the central party leadership has tasked Baghel with ensuring the party presents a united front.
Recently, Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh criticised Warring, describing him as a selfish leader. Warring has maintained his composure, but warned that indiscipline will not be tolerated.
Baghel’s visit is also seen as a strategic move to counter AAP’s influence in Punjab, particularly with the pressure to replicate the Delhi model in the state.
