Doaba Kisan Committee state president Jangveer Singh Chauhan on Monday said the announcement of Rs 20,000 per acre relief for the crop loss made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was a cruel joke on farmers. He demanded that the government should seek funds from the Centre and announce Rs 70,000 per acre.
“The interest on loans taken by the farmers should be waived. Due to the damage caused by this flood, the farmers won't be able to recover for three years. The farmers' tractors, land, houses and livestock have been destroyed," he said.

The government's decision regarding lifting and selling of sand was right, but it took two months for the water and soil to run out from the fields adjacent to the rivers. Relaxing the deadline till another year to level the fields would be beneficial,” he added.
Chauhan rued that no compensation had been announced for the farm labourers. He stressed since sugarcane growers had just one crop in a year, the government should have announced Rs 1 lakh as compensation for these farmers.
