The Punjab Government today capped the salaries of new recruits on a par with the pay scale of those on the same post prescribed by the Government of India in the Seventh Pay Commission. The Finance Department today issued instructions regarding the same to the government departments.

The instructions come in the wake of ministers appointing people in the departments at salaries higher than even the top-ranking bureaucrats or the Chief Minister of the state.

The instructions clearly state that the salary offered to such prospective appointees recruited directly, including those appointed on compassionate grounds, can’t be higher than the salary of a person on a similar post in the Government of India.
