Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit tendered his resignation to President citing personal reasons
Official sources in the Punjab Raj Bhawan told The Tribune that the Governor had met President Droupadi Murmu on Friday and expressed his desire to resign from the post of Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh Administration. Following this, the resignation was sent on Saturday.
"Due to my personal reasons and certain other commitments, I tender my resignation from the post of governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh. Please accept the same and oblige," Purohit wrote in his resignation letter.
Purohit had also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Purohit is also the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The meeting came days after the BJP swept the Chandigarh mayoral polls, retaining all three posts, a setback to the Congress-AAP alliance, which alleged tampering with ballot papers by the presiding officer.
