Veteran athlete Jarnail Singh Garcha has been honoured with a prestigious recognition by the Punjab government for his remarkable contributions to track and field events at both national and international levels. The 66-year-old athlete received the accolade from Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during the state-level Republic Day ceremony at Punjab Agricultural University campus.

A consistent performer in athletics, Garcha has made his mark in various competitions. After clinching three gold medals in the Pan India Masters Games held in Bengaluru—winning in high jump, 400m race, and 4x400m relay—he went on to shine on the global stage. At the 19th Australian Masters Games in Adelaide, where over 50 athletes from 20 countries competed, Garcha triumphed in the 65-plus category, winning three golds in the 400m, 300m low hurdles, and 100m high hurdles races. Additionally, he finished as the runner-up in the 800m race and secured bronze medals in the 60m sprint and high jump events.

Earlier in his career, Garcha had gained national recognition by winning a gold medal in the 400m race at the National Veterans Athletics Meet in Nasik. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, he has also competed in kabaddi (Punjab style), earning a gold medal in the National Championship.

Known for his rigorous five-hour exercise regimen, Garcha attributes his success to his disciplined lifestyle.
