Punjab: Majithia grilled for 8 hours in drug case
The special investigation team (SIT) headed by DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar questioned Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia at the Patiala Police Lines for over eight hours on Monday. The four-member SIT has summoned him for another round of questioning on Tuesday.
Addressing mediapersons, SIT member Varun Sharma said they were conducting professional and scientific investigation that would take time. “There are four accused named in the FIR and three of them are abroad. We are in the process of getting them back to make them join the probe,” he said. The SIT was also probing some “financial transactions related to the case”, he added.
“Some suspicious financial transactions by some firms are under probe and we are corroborating the same. Certain cash deposits in bank accounts and abnormal rise in assets needs detailed answers,” he added.
Addressing newsmen after the SIT questioning, Majithia said he came to answer the questions following the Supreme Court orders. “The Punjab Government wants to ensure that I am put behind bars, but I have full faith in the judiciary,” he said.
