Punjab Police arrested Pappalpreet Singh, a close aide of jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, from Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam after his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) expired on Wednesday.

He is being transported back to Amritsar under tight security. With this, only Amritpal Singh remains in Assam’s jail, where his detention period is set to end on April 23.

Following his release from Dibrugarh jail, Pappalpreet Singh was arrested in connection with the Ajnala police station attack case.

Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh confirmed the arrest, adding that Pappalpreet is expected to arrive in Amritsar by late evening and will be produced before the Ajnala sub-divisional court on Thursday.

Amritpal Singh, the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief, along with nine associates, has been detained in Dibrugarh jail under the NSA since 2023.

Earlier, several of his associates, including Varinder Singh alias Fauji, Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Gurmeet Singh Gill alias Gurmeet Bukkanwala, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal alias Kulwant Singh, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla alias Guri Aujla, Harjeet Singh alias Chacha, and Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi alias Daljeet Singh Kalsi were brought back to Punjab.
