Punjab Police to get cutting-edge anti-drone technology to combat trans-border drug smuggling
The Punjab Police will soon be equipped with advanced anti-drone technology to intercept trans-border drug smuggling, announced Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. This move is part of the state government’s “Yudh Nashe de Virudh” campaign aimed at eradicating the scourge of drugs.
Three companies showcased their cutting-edge anti-drone solutions at a demonstration event organised by the Punjab Police at PCA Stadium, Mullanpur. The technologies demonstrated included portable, mobile, and stationary solutions capable of intercepting drones at varying distances. The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers Harpal Singh Cheema and Aman Arora, Director General of Police Punjab Gaurav Yadav, and a number of senior civil and police officials.
According to Cheema, these technologies are designed to disrupt drone movement, breaking the cross-border drug supply chain. The Punjab Police experts, in consultation with central security agencies, will soon finalise the procurement of the most effective systems.
Aman Arora emphasised that strengthening the state’s second line of defence is crucial in combating cross-border terrorism and narco-terrorism. He assured that the state has launched a comprehensive 360-degree action plan against drug traffickers and that there would be no shortage of funds to ensure public safety and security.
The Union Government has also taken steps to counter drone threats, with the Border Security Force (BSF) deploying anti-drone systems in border areas of Punjab. Additionally, the government is working on guidelines for the procurement of anti-drone technology.
