The Punjab Police had played a crucial role in tracing gangster Anmol Bishnoi, who is set to be deported from the USA to India on Wednesday.

The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the state police in June 2022 uncovered that Anmol had fled India in April 2022 using a forged passport, accompanied by another wanted gangster, Sachin Thapan. Their escape route included Kenya and other countries before reaching the USA.

Anmol is being deported to Mumbai which had sought his deportation from the USA in the Baba Siddique murder case.

The Punjab Police had also sought his deportation. Police officials said today that all necessary efforts would be made to take him on remand from Mumbai as soon as possible.

Sources said the police had found the fake passports in the investigation of the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Cops found out that Anmol got a fake passport in the name of Bhanu Pratap, a resident of Sector 82, Faridabad, Haryana. His father’s name was mentioned as Rakesh in the fake passport. As per his real particulars, his father’s name is Lovinder Bishnoi and he is a resident of Dutranwali village in Fazilka, Punjab.

Police sources said Anmol’s brother and India’s most-wanted gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had planned Anmol’s exit before Moosewala’s killing so that he could escape police action.

According to the charge-sheet filed in the case, both Anmol and Sachin were involved in the planning of the murder. Investigators believe that they deliberately left India early to mislead law enforcement agencies and avoid direct implication.

In April 2023, Anmol Bishnoi resurfaced in the public eye when a video of him dancing at a wedding in California went viral. The event drew further attention as two Punjabi singers, known rivals of Moosewala, also performed at the celebration.

The biggest revelation came when the police identified the groom, Karanveer, as a proclaimed offender from Ludhiana. Karanveer was allegedly involved in making fake passports and had ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He had fled India while facing charges in a murder case. Police sources confirmed that the extradition proceedings had now been initiated against him as well.
