A 40-year-old resident of Jandwala Hanwanta village near Abohar died after being hit by a canter (mini truck) on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Prem Kamboj, was a secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress farmers’ wing.

Pala Ram of Jandwala Hanwanta, in a statement given to Khuian Sarwar police station, said that his son Prem was going to buy some domestic goods on a bike. When he was passing through a link road near the Dangar Khera rural bus stop, a speeding canter hit his bike. Prem was seriously injured and was taken to the civil hospital. He was later referred to higher center in Bathinda where he died. 

Police said that a case was registered against the canter driver, identified as Balwinder Singh of Sri Ganganagar, under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
