Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma on Saturday said the brutal murder in Jalandhar had exposed the failure of the Bhagwant Mann government. He said Punjab was no longer ruled by law, but by crime.

He said the police administration was functioning under political pressure, which had emboldened criminals in the state. Taking a dig at CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, he said both were busy in advertisement-driven and statement-based politics, while people were living under the shadow of fear.

“The slogan of “BADLAV” has today turned into a feeling of fear and insecurity for the people of Punjab”, he said.

He expressed deep sympathy with the victim’s family and demanded strictest possible action against the culprits.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
