Punjab-based writer Chandan Negi has been selected for the Sahitya Akademi Translation Award 2024, alongside 20 other awardees. Negi has been recognised for translating Himanshi Joshi’s Hindi novel “Tere Liye” into Punjabi, titled “Tere Laee”.

The Sahitya Akademi Translation Award honours outstanding translations of literary works. This year’s awardees include Madan Soni for his Hindi translation of Yashodhara Dalmia’s biography, “Sayed Haider Raza”, and Archana Kesar for her Dogri translation of Bhishama Sahani’s Hindi novel “Tamas”.

The executive board of the Sahitya Akademi, chaired by President Madhav Kaushik, approved the selection of 21 books for the awards. Translation prizes in Nepali and Sanskrit languages will be announced later. Notably, no award was given for Urdu translation this year.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a copper plaque, which will be presented to the winners at a special ceremony later this year. The prize recognises translations published between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2022.
