Recognising his efforts in humanising the lifestyle of lakhs of people by providing them employment and congenial environment at workplace, residents of the region paid rich tributes to a prominent Indian industrialist and philanthropist Ratan N Tata, who passed away late on Wednesday night.

Speakers, including psychiatrists, physicians, industrialists, educationists and social activists, recollected contributions and achievements of Ratan Tata during functions held to observe World Mental Health Day today.

“Besides being a world famous industrialist and philanthropist, Ratan Tata emerged as a resource person who spontaneously improved the mental health of lakhs of his fans, including youth employed in his companies,” said SP Sofat, patron, Rotary Club, during the concluding session of a seminar at DAV Senior Secondary School, Ahmedgarh.

Jyoti Kapoor, senior medical officer at the Civil Hospital, was the chief guest and senior psychiatrist Anshu Gupta the keynote speaker at the seminar organised by the club.

Identifying mental health deterioration as major factor behind the increasing number of suicides among youth and deaths due to cardiac arrest, Anshu Gupta emphasised the need for regular medical checkup of people living under stressful environment.

Irrational use of mobile phones, westernisation of lifestyle, hectic daily routine, unhealthy food habits and irregular sleep patterns were identified as major factors behind most of the issues related with mental health.

Identifying employee-employer relationship, mutual relationship among employees and implementation of rules and regulations on working conditions as prerequisite for improving mental health of employees, chief adviser Amjad Ali said, “As an employee spends maximum time of 10-12 hours at workplace, environment there is bound to effect his or her mental health.”
