Former CM Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday claimed that he received a text message for ransom from an unidentified number some time back.

“Despite the security paraphernalia given to me as a former CM, I got the message demanding Rs 2 crore ransom about a month back. I had forwarded the message to the DGP, but still got no response,” he said.

Commenting on the law and order situation in the state, Channi said demanding ransom had become a routine. “I did not go to the media on getting the text message. But now, a councillor from Morinda today told me that he had received a call demanding Rs 50 lakh in ransom. The family is in a state of shock. I am pained to share the text message that I had also received,” said the former CM.

He said the text message sender claimed to be from Goldy Brar gang and threatened to do what they did with Sidhu Moosewala.
