An NGO from US United Sikh Mission organised a free eye check-up-cum-operation camp at Rupalheri village in the district. A team of doctors led by Dr Sai Deep of Sai Kripa Eye and Children hospital, Sirhind, checked up more than 200 patients and out of these 72 patients were recommended for operation. All eye surgeries were performed free of cost.

Eye surgeon Dr Saideep Dhand performed a record 72 eye surgeries in 5 hours and 20 minutes. Dr Dhand of Sai Kripa Eye and Children Hospital claimed that he has broken the previous record by performing one surgery in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.

Balbir Singh, executive member of the NGO, said it was a matter of pride that a young surgeon had performed surgeries successfully in a record time.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
