Retired Chandigarh DSP arrested for shooting AAP leader Nitin Nanda over land dispute

Dilsher Singh, the retired DSP from Chandigarh police who had shot at AAP Leader Nitin Nanda in Agampur village of Anandpur Sahib yesterday afternoon, has been arrested by the police. Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana, when contacted by The Tribune, said Gulsher Singh was arrested from Ropar while going to the local court.

The SSP said raids were being conducted to nab Dilsher’s brothers, who are also accused in the case. According to the statement given by Nitin’s brother Hari Kishan, the incident took place around 2pm when Nitin had gone to attend a wedding. While Nitin was having lunch, Dilsher Singh, allegedly accompanied by his wife and associates — Ran Bahadur, Ram Singh, Dr Ajay Rana — opened fire, hitting Nitin in the back of his head.

The assailants reportedly fled the scene after firing multiple rounds in the air, one of which struck a temple pillar. They escaped in a car parked outside the Vishwakarma temple and were last seen heading towards Garhshankar.

The police have registered a case at Anandpur Sahib Police Station under Sections 109, 351(2), 191(3), 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act (25, 27, 54, 59) against all accused in the case.

In his statement, Hari Kishan alleged that his brother had given Rs 1 crore as earnest money to Dilsher Singh for a land deal that never materialised, and that the dispute was already pending in court. He claimed that the shooting was an attempt to kill his brother over the ongoing land transaction.
