Punjab Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice Sant Parkash visited the Faridkot Modern Jail. He interacted with inmates and also checked the jail records and inspected all the barracks to check the inmates’ living conditions.

He also checked the food being served to the prisoners and inspected the kitchen and dispensary. Spreading in 72 acres of land, Faridkot jail housed a total of 2,337 inmates, including 2,238 males, 99 females and five minor children, with their mothers on Sunday.

Justice Sant Prakash also had personal meetings with 450 prisoners, including 120 women prisoners, who were holding petitions in a line outside the barracks. He directed the SSP Harjit Singh present on the spot to take immediate action regarding the delay in the hearing of the bail, release or jail transfer applications of about a dozen of these prisoners.

He emphasised that personal hearings should be kept to a minimum in the courts of the prisoners and maximum use should be made of the 6 video conferencing rooms built in the jail.

After meeting the six TB patients, he expressed satisfaction over the health facilities available in the jail.
