Ropar AAP MLA releases video, assures farmers their land won't be taken without consent

During a tractor march that was taken out in Ropar district today, farm leaders blamed the central leaders of AAP for trying to forcibly implement the Land Pooling Policy in the state.

Witnessing the uproar over the issue, Dinesh Chada, AAP MLA from Ropar, released a video in a bid to placate the farmers. He assured the farmers that if they had not given assent for the land pooling policy, not even an inch of their land would be acquired by the state.

However, when contacted, he refused to comment over the issue.

Earlier, AAP MP from Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency Malvinder Singh Kang had openly spoken against the land pooling policy of the Punjab Government.

The rally of farmers started from Morinda around 11 am and ended in Ropar in the afternoon. The farm leaders alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had been kept in the dark about the Land Pooling Policy, which had been brought by AAP’s Delhi leadership.

They said they had been offered 2-kanal land for every one acre land they gave under the policy. “Our land would be taken over by the state government but we will not be given any compensation for it. We do not know when the land would be developed and whether the projects planned over it would be successful. We will lose our land and livelihood without getting any compensation,” said a farm leader.

The farmers said that had planned another rally in Mohali on August 24. They warned that if the government failed to withdraw the policy even after that, AAP MPs and MLAs would not be allowed to enter villages and tractor trailers would head to Chandigarh.
