The government has released Rs 13.16 crore for the marriage of underprivileged girls under the Ashirwad scheme for Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections during the current year, according to Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr Baljit Kaur.

She said under the Ashirwad scheme, Rs13.16 crore has been released to beneficiaries belonging to Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 whose applications were received on the Ashirwad portal. The release of this amount covered 2,581 beneficiaries. The scheme provides benefits for up to two daughters per eligible families.
