Three masked men looted Rs 13 lakh from a bank after taking the staff and visitors hostage in broad daylight in Jalandhar on Thursday.

The incident occurred in UCO Bank located at Sodal near Industrial area where armed robbers struck at 3.50 pm. Police officials, including police commissioner Grusharan Singh Sandhu, reached the spot.

According to information, one of the three robbers came inside the bank posing as customers. He later informed his accomplices who came armed. While one robber broke open the cash box, the other two held the staff and visitors hostage at gunpoint.

The miscreants also tried to loot the gold ornaments of the visitors, but were unsuccessful and fled the spot with cash.

DCP Investigation Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said, “The police teams were scrutinising the CCTV footahe to find any clues. Forensic team have also reached the spot. The investigation is underway.”
