Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday announced to appear before Akal Takht, day after being summoned by the five Sikh high priests, led by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.
In a post on X in Punjabi, the SAD chief said that “being a devout Sikh, he will abide by the orders of the Akal Takht and appear before it”.
Sukhbir was summoned by the Akal Takht on Monday after he faced with senior “rebel” Akali leaders’ allegations of compromising on Panth sentiments for “political gains”.
Akal Takht directed the SAD chief — the Jathedar refrained from mentioning Badal’s name — to appear in person and submit his reply in writing within 15 days.
The decision came during a meeting by the Sikh clergy at the Akal Takht Secretariat.
