In a written complaint, SAD chief spokesperson and legal cell head Arshdeep Singh Kler alleged that the local police, “under pressure from ruling AAP”, was registering false and politically motivated FIRs to obstruct the party campaign.
He said notices under Sections 126 and 169 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were being served on SAD leaders to stop them from canvassing. Kler said two DSPs — Jagjeet Singh and Sukhbir Singh — were posted in Tarn Taran just before the poll code came into force for the bypoll and despite earlier objections, no action had been taken.
“This has emboldened the police to continue filing false complaints,” he alleged.
He cited recent cases, including the registration of an FIR against Dodhe village sarpanch Varinder Singh and Manpreet Singh, personal assistant to SAD candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa.
Kler alleged that a worker, Prabhjit Singh, had been “abducted by the CIA staff and remained untraceable”.
Asserting that free and fair polls were impossible under such circumstances, Kler demanded the immediate transfer of the SSP and the two DSPs, or their removal from election-related duties.
