The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) core committee on Monday decided to launch a “people’s campaign”, which the party said would expose corrupt ruling AAP leaders while raising key issues plaguing the state.

The decision was taken at the first meeting of the party’s reconstituted core committee. It was chaired by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Slamming AAP, the party also asked the government to “stop vendetta politics”, with its senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema claiming that “Emergency-like conditions were being created in Punjab” by Delhi AAP leaders team led by Arvind Kejriwal, who he said was hell bent on suppressing the voice of the Opposition.

“Bikram Singh Majithia was regularly exposing the government including its corrupt practices and that is the reason that a false case has been registered against him,” Cheema claimed.

Asserting that the disproportionate assets case against him would come to a naught, Cheema said, “The SAD will continue to expose the AAP government as it has failed to keep any of the promises made to people. Punjab is reeling under the spell of gangsters and the drug mafia which are ruling the roost. The law-and-order situation is at its worst ever.”

Cheema said the core committee also discussed the manner in which the AAP government was set to “forcibly acquire” 24,000 acres in Ludhiana besides hundreds of acres of land across the state under the land pooling initiative.

He said thousands of farm labourers would also lose their livelihood in the process.
